What is Azoospermia?
- Azoospermia means there is no sperm in the semen. It may be one of the major causes of male infertility.
- Azoospermia may be present from birth or develop in later life.
- Obstruction in the vas deferens (sperm duct) or absence of sperm production in the testicles may lead to nil sperm count.
- Having no sperm makes it more difficult to conceive naturally.
- In Ayurveda, it corresponds to shukra kshaya.
Ayurvedic ways to treat azoospermia
- In this case report, the patient presented with the complaint of being unable to conceive. According to symptomatic presentation and by assessing semen analysis and ultrasound of the scrotum, the cases were diagnosed to be azoospermia.
- A pure Ayurvedic approach was adopted for treating the case in which ahar-vihar (food, lifestyle, and exercise) and shaman (pacifying therapy) principles were incorporated.
- Azoospermia is treated with the help of powerful herbs that boost male reproductive organs. Some of these herbs are Mahashatavari, Ashwagandha, Amala, Vidarikand, Balabij, Black kauchabij, Gokshur, Yashtimadhu, Akarkarbha, Kustha, Ikshurak and Kesar. These herbs contain properties that stimulate spermatogenesis and libido.
Results and conclusions
- After 3-4 months of treatment, change of lifestyle, and dietary changes significant results in semen analysis were observed without any adverse effects. It can be concluded from the following patient’s result that ayurvedic treatment has the potential and valuable to treat azoospermia.

A 31-year-old male patient, weighing 145 kg, has been married for 1.5 years. He is employed in an office setting and resides in Adajan, Surat. His dietary habits are mixed, and he has a habit of chewing tobacco. He was presented at our clinic with nil sperm count and normal sexual activity. After all investigations and reports, he was diagnosed with azoospermia (1 infertility).
